Who can sign up for West Park Jr Panthers Cheer?
West Park Jr Panthers will welcome any youth cheerleader in the age groups below, whether they have years of cheer experience or have never cheered before. As a feeder program to West Park High School, which is currently impacted and not accepting transfers for students who live outside of the boundaries, West Park Jr Panthers must adhere to the same boundary guidelines as the high school for participation in our program. Beginning in 2025, registration will be based on the address of the athletes’ residence correlating with West Park High School as their home school based on the Roseville Joint Union High School District School Locator.
Which cheer team will my cheerleader be on?
Our program offers cheerleading for ages 4-14. We have 5 teams, and teams are based on age as of August 31st of the participating year. There may be opportunity for cheerleaders to move up a division based on experience, skill, and team needs. Please contact our Cheer VP with any questions about placement.
- Mascots
- Mascots - ages 4-6. The mascot cheerleaders are our youngest cheer team. They cheer alongside our Jr teams at home football games. The mascot program has fewer costs and less time commitment associated with it than with the traditional cheer programs listed below.
- Cheer (will cheer at all football games and SAC cheer competitions)
- Jr Pee Wee/9u Team - ages 7-9
- Pee Wee/11u Team - ages 9-11
- Jr Midgets/13u Team - ages 11-13 (no 8th graders, 8th graders must cheer 14u)
- Midgets/14u Team - ages 12-14 (no high schoolers)
What kind of time commitment should I expect during the cheer season?
Youth Cheer is a significant time commitment, and we want families to feel fully informed. A finalized, detailed calendar will be provided once confirmed.
- All practices and home games are held at West Park High School.
- Locations of away games vary based on division placement of WPJP football teams. This is determined by SAC.
- Official practices start in mid-July with four practices per week (Mon–Thurs).
- Once games begin in late August, practices shift to three days per week (Tues–Thurs).
- Practices are mandatory—stunting requires full stunt groups, and one absence prevents the entire group from practicing safely.
- The season includes at least one jamboree/scrimmage, ~8 Saturday regular-season games, and possible playoff/championship games.
- Games typically last around 2 hours, with cheerleaders asked to arrive ~90 minutes early for meetings and warm-ups.
- The season concludes in late October or early November, depending on playoff progression.
- A mandatory cheer competition will take place during the season; dates will be announced once released.
Any schedule changes will be communicated as soon as possible.
Is any equipment required for cheer?
To keep our athletes safe and prepared, a few items are required:
- Stunting helmet for flyers
For safety during stunts, all flyers must wear an approved stunting helmet at practice. Reach out to your coach if you need guidance on the correct helmet. - Towel or mat for stretching
Practices are held on grass, so athletes should bring a towel or small mat for warm-ups and stretching. - Large water bottle
Because practices take place outside during the summer heat, every cheerleader must bring a full water bottle to stay hydrated.
If any additional equipment is needed, coaches will communicate it before the season begins.

What safety measures do we employ within our organization to ensure our cheerleaders are safe?
- EMT professionals will be present at every game.
- We have dedicated Board Members for equipment and medical needs. These board members or another assigned and trained adult will be present at all practices and are responsible for monitoring any possible equipment or medical need.
- All coaches at all levels are CPR and First Aid certified, and must pass a full background check in order to become an SYF certified coach.[VB1]
- Our teams will have a systematic approach to practice scheduling to keep the focus on technique, skill, and knowledge development to improve technique and confidence. All stunts performed will be developmentally appropriate and taught using proper technique progressions, and all appropriate safety precautions will be used.
